Executive Summary: Amalfi Coast (Italy) is at its prime during May–Jun, Sep. Characterized by sun & slow, old-world romance, it ranks #22 on the Luxe score and is best suited for the two of us and the group chat planning a about a week journey.

The feeling

Pastel villages stacked above a sea that changes colour by the hour. Go in shoulder season, when the boats are still running and the crowds have thinned.

✺ Your Luxentravel trip

Three days on the Amalfi Coast

Three unhurried days of lemon groves, cliff paths and boat rides, timed so the light does most of the work. Go in late spring or September, when the sea is warm and the roads breathe again.

Save to My trips
  1. Day 1

    Positano from the water

    Morning

Wake to the stacked pastel houses of Positano and take an early coffee before the day-trippers arrive. Wander down through the lanes to Spiaggia Grande while the beach is still being raked.

    Afternoon

Charter a small wooden boat along the coast, stopping to swim in quiet coves and drift past Li Galli, the islets offshore.

    Evening

Climb back up for a Spritz on a terrace as the village turns gold, then a slow seafood dinner overlooking the bay.

  2. Day 2

    The Path of the Gods

    Morning

Ride up to Bomerano and walk the Sentiero degli Dei, a high cliff trail with the whole coast spread out below. It ends in Nocelle, with a long staircase down toward Positano.

    Afternoon

Rest your legs with a long lunch, then a nap with the shutters half open and the sound of the sea below.

    Evening

Take a boat to Amalfi for a twilight stroll past the striped Duomo di Sant'Andrea and along the harbor.

  3. Day 3

    Gardens high above Ravello

    Morning

Head up to Ravello, perched well above the sea, and walk the terraced gardens of Villa Rufolo while the town is still quiet.

    Afternoon

Continue to Villa Cimbrone and its Terrace of Infinity, a balustrade of marble busts facing open sky. Linger over limoncello and an unhurried lunch in the piazza.

    Evening

Walk down the old steps to tiny Atrani for a last dinner in its square, close enough to hear the waves.

Where to stay

Positano for glamour and the boat scene, or Ravello for gardens, quiet and wide views.

Our tip

In high season use the ferries rather than the coast road; boats are calmer, faster than the traffic and deliver you right to the waterfront.

When

Best May–Jun, Sep; still lovely Apr, Jul, Oct.
