✺ Your Luxentravel trip

Three days in Bhutan

Three days in a Himalayan kingdom of cliffside monasteries and prayer flags, moving gently with a guide between the Paro valley and the capital, Thimphu.

Save to My trips
  1. Day 1

    Arrive in the Paro valley

    Morning

Fly into Paro, one of the world's most dramatic airport approaches, threading between the mountains.

    Afternoon

Visit Rinpung Dzong and the ancient Kyichu Lhakhang temple, walking slowly to adjust to the altitude.

    Evening

Take a traditional hot stone bath in a farmhouse, then a simple dinner of red rice and chili cheese.

  2. Day 2

    Up to Tiger's Nest

    Morning

Hike to Paro Taktsang, the Tiger's Nest monastery, clinging to a cliff above the valley.

    Afternoon

Return slowly, pausing at the teahouse halfway for views, then rest at your lodge.

    Evening

A quiet evening with butter tea and a restorative dinner.

  3. Day 3

    The capital, Thimphu

    Morning

Drive to Thimphu to visit the giant Buddha Dordenma overlooking the valley and the Memorial Chorten.

    Afternoon

Visit Tashichho Dzong, the seat of government, and explore the crafts of the city.

    Evening

Final dinner and a walk through the quiet streets of the capital.

Where to stay

A lodge in the Paro valley, with a night in Thimphu at the end.

Our tip

Start the Tiger's Nest hike early, carry water and take it slowly; the altitude makes the climb harder than the distance suggests.

When

Best Mar–Apr, Oct–Nov; still lovely May, Sep.
