✺ Your Luxentravel trip

Three days on Iceland's South Coast

Three days along the Ring Road under a sun that barely sets, from waterfalls you can walk behind to black-sand beaches and a lagoon full of floating ice.

Save to My trips
  1. Day 1

    Waterfalls and a warm pool

    Morning

Drive east from Reykjavík to Seljalandsfoss and walk behind its curtain of water, then find hidden Gljúfrabúi nearby.

    Afternoon

Stand in the spray at Skógafoss, then climb the stairs beside it for views along the river.

    Evening

Walk to the old Seljavallalaug pool, tucked into a valley, for a soak in the bright midnight light.

  2. Day 2

    Black sand and canyons

    Morning

Visit Reynisfjara's basalt columns and black sand, then look for puffins on the cliffs at Dyrhólaey in summer.

    Afternoon

Drive east past the lava fields to the mossy gorge of Fjaðrárgljúfur, then continue to Skaftafell.

    Evening

Hike to Svartifoss, framed by dark basalt columns, in the long evening light.

  3. Day 3

    Glacier and icebergs

    Morning

Join a guided glacier walk on an outlet glacier of Vatnajökull, with crampons and an expert leading the way.

    Afternoon

Visit Jökulsárlón, where icebergs drift toward the sea, then walk Diamond Beach as the ice washes ashore.

    Evening

Begin the long drive back west, or stay a night nearby and return to Reykjavík the next day.

Where to stay

Country guesthouses or a design hotel near Vík and Skaftafell, moving east along the coast.

Our tip

At Reynisfjara, never turn your back on the sea; sneaker waves surge far up the beach without warning.

When

Best Jun–Aug; still lovely Feb–Mar, Sep.
