Executive Summary: The Maldives (Maldives) is at its prime during Jan–Apr. Characterized by sun & slow, reset & restore, it ranks #1 on the Luxe score and is best suited for the two of us and with the kids planning a about a week or two weeks or more journey.

The feeling

Twelve hundred coral islands where the reef starts at your deck. The dry northeast monsoon, roughly December to April, brings the calmest seas and clearest water.

✺ Your Luxentravel trip

Three days in the Maldives

Three days with almost nothing on the schedule: a house reef at your door, the slow rhythm of the tides and evenings that end with your feet in warm sand.

Save to My trips
  1. Day 1

    Arrive by seaplane

    Morning

Fly over the atolls by seaplane, watching reefs and lagoons pass below like scattered turquoise rings.

    Afternoon

Settle into your villa, then slip off the deck for your first snorkel on the house reef, where reef sharks and turtles often cruise the drop-off.

    Evening

Barefoot dinner on the sand, then lie back and look at a sky with almost no light pollution.

  2. Day 2

    Reef and sandbank

    Morning

Join a guided snorkel or dive on an outer reef while the water is calm and the visibility is at its clearest.

    Afternoon

Take a boat to a deserted sandbank for a picnic and a swim, then retreat to the shade with a book.

    Evening

Head out on a sunset cruise, keeping an eye out for spinner dolphins that often play around the boats.

  3. Day 3

    Nothing on the schedule

    Morning

Sleep late, then breakfast on your deck with the lagoon below. A gentle yoga session or a paddleboard on glassy water is as busy as it gets.

    Afternoon

Book a long massage at the overwater spa, often with a glass floor and fish passing beneath.

    Evening

End with a private dinner on the beach or a jetty, lit by lanterns and the stars.

Where to stay

An overwater or beach villa in a resort chosen for the quality of its house reef.

Our tip

Seaplanes only fly in daylight, so if your international flight lands late, plan a night near Malé before transferring.

When

Best Jan–Apr; still lovely Nov–Dec.
