✺ Your Luxentravel trip

Three days in Zermatt

Three days in a car-free village beneath the Matterhorn, with skiing or hiking by day and fondue, spas and early nights that let the mountain air do its work.

Save to My trips
  1. Day 1

    The Matterhorn at dawn

    Morning

Ride the Gornergrat railway for sweeping views of the Matterhorn and the Gorner Glacier, ideally on a clear early morning.

    Afternoon

In winter, ski the Riffelberg slopes; in summer, walk down past the Riffelsee, where the peak reflects in the water.

    Evening

Return to the village for a slow fondue dinner in a wood-paneled restaurant.

  2. Day 2

    High above the glaciers

    Morning

Take the cable cars to the Matterhorn Glacier Paradise for views across the Alps into Italy.

    Afternoon

Ski across the border toward Cervinia in winter, or hike the Five Lakes Walk from Blauherd in summer.

    Evening

Book a long spa session, then dinner with Swiss wine and an early night.

  3. Day 3

    The old village

    Morning

Sleep in, then walk through the Hinterdorf, where weathered larch barns stand on stone stilts.

    Afternoon

Visit the Matterhorn Museum to learn about the first ascent, then walk up to the mountain hamlets of Findeln for lunch with a view.

    Evening

Last drinks on a terrace facing the peak as the alpenglow fades.

Where to stay

A chalet-style hotel on a quiet lane above the main street, with a Matterhorn-facing balcony.

Our tip

Check the mountain webcams before buying lift or railway tickets; the Matterhorn hides in cloud often, and mornings are usually clearest.

When

Best Jan–Mar, Jul–Aug; still lovely Sep, Dec.
