Executive Summary: Torres del Paine (Chile) is at its prime during Dec–Feb. Characterized by wild & remote, it ranks #46 on the Luxe score and is best suited for just me and the group chat and the two of us planning a about a week or two weeks or more journey.

The feeling

Southern Patagonia at its most dramatic. The southern summer brings long days for the W Trek, and the lodges here range from refugios to all-inclusive design hotels.

✺ Your Luxentravel trip

Three days in Torres del Paine

Three days of granite towers, glacier lakes and long southern-summer light, with a lodge to return to each night and wind that becomes part of the story.

Save to My trips
  1. Day 1

    Into the park

    Morning

Leave Puerto Natales early and stop at the Cueva del Milodón, a vast cave where remains of a giant ground sloth were found.

    Afternoon

Enter the park past Laguna Amarga, watching for guanacos, then walk to Salto Grande and the Mirador Cuernos for your first view of the jagged horns.

    Evening

Arrive at your lodge for dinner as the peaks catch the last light over the lakes.

  2. Day 2

    The base of the towers

    Morning

Start early on the trail to Mirador Las Torres, climbing through the Ascencio Valley with the river below.

    Afternoon

Scramble up the final boulder field to the glacial lake beneath the three granite towers, then descend slowly.

    Evening

Rest tired legs with a hot drink and a well-earned dinner, sharing stories of the wind.

  3. Day 3

    Ice and glaciers

    Morning

Drive to Lago Grey and walk along the beach where icebergs drift ashore from Grey Glacier.

    Afternoon

Take a boat across the lake toward the glacier face, or hike the shorter trail to Mirador Condor above Lago Pehoé.

    Evening

Watch the evening light on the Paine Massif from the lodge, with a glass of Chilean wine.

Where to stay

A lodge or eco-dome camp inside or near the park, close to the main trailheads.

Our tip

Pack layers and gloves even in summer; the wind can change everything in minutes, and trekking poles help on the exposed sections.

When

Best Dec–Feb; still lovely Mar, Nov.
